It was not always such a hassle to get a player from AAA to the Mets. Now the Nationals will be scrambling to locate a new AAA affiliate, as they look for something closer to home.
At an event Tuesday at NBT Bank Stadium in Syracuse, Mets officials, Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney formally announced that the team will buy the Syracuse Chiefs.
The New York Mets have closed on a deal to purchase the Syracuse Chiefs, with plans to move their Triple-A affiliate to Syracuse in 2019.
According to CBS affiliate WTVH in Syracuse, Chiefs General Manager Jason Smorol confirmed Monday that the New York Mets will be purchasing and operating the Syracuse Chiefs. The Chiefs have been affiliated with the Nationals since 2009.

"This is somewhat of a homecoming for the Mets", he said.
Traveling from Las Vegas to New York City can take several hours.
The New York Mets have always been attempting to bring the club's Triple-A affiliate closer to the "Big Apple" as the National League East franchise most recently partnered with the Las Vegas 51s of the Pacific Coast League.
The Mets also own the Binghamton Rumble Ponies of the Double-A Eastern League.
