U.S. disarmament ambassador Robert Wood took the floor to say the Security Council resolution "frankly sent a very clear and unambiguous message to the regime that the worldwide community is exhausted, is no longer willing to put up provocative behaviour from this regime".
The United Nations Security Council unanimously adopted a US-drafted resolution to impose new sanctions on North Korea on Monday -- a move that comes just one week after the rogue nation carried out its sixth and largest nuclear test.
The sanctions, which cap the country's oil imports, ban textile exports, and phase out the use of overseas North Korean labor, were somewhat softened in order to win votes from reluctant China and Russian Federation.
In a statement issued early Monday, North Korea said it was "ready and willing" to respond with measures of its own if the USA -backed proposal is approved by the UN.
That could be a significant restriction.
Of the US$385.2 million of goods China imported from North Korea in the second quarter, 38 per cent, or US$147.5 million, consisted of garments, according to China Customs data. Almost 80 percent of the textile exports went to China. Some experts, however, doubt the oil and fuel component on the sanctions will have much impact.
Instead, annual crude oil supplies are capped at current levels - China is believed to supply around four million barrels a year through a pipeline, while deliveries of refined oil products such as gasoline and diesel are limited to two million barrels a year. "But those sanctions are nothing compared to what ultimately will have to happen".
Puppies Infect Humans With Bacterial Illness
The illnesses started from September 15, 2016 to August 12, 2017, with the most recent illness reported on September 1, 2017. The CDC has advised pet owners to take particular care to clean up after their dogs and wash their hands thoroughly.
Yet no one really thinks they'll force the regime to give up its nuclear and missile programs.
What's in the new sanctions resolution against North Korea? The only sanction that has been retained from the US original wish list is a ban on exports of North Korean textiles.

There have been signs, including reduced supply and skyrocketing prices, that North Korea has already started diverting oil products away from gas stations and other consumer outlets.
He credited a "strong relationship" between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping for successful resolution of negotiations.
Biswas noted, however, that the situation with China remains both crucial and complicated.
Sen. John McCain, a heavyweight lawmaker who chairs the Armed Services Committee, added weight to the NBC report as he called for a "serious consideration" of the proposal. A Japan and Korea editor at the East Asia Forum, Ben Ascione, tells ValueWalk that North Korea has "proven adept at evading sanctions over the years".
Oil nears $49 as brighter demand outlook sparks optimism
The IEA revised down the global refinery throughput forecast for the third quarter of 2017 by 0.7 million bpd due to Harvey. With ongoing rebalancing, the IEA raised its call on OPEC's oil by 0.1 million bpd for both 2017 and 2018.
South Korea's presidential Blue House said the only way for Pyongyang to end diplomatic isolation and become free of further economic pressure was to end it nuclear programme and resume dialogue.
North Korea will be feeling the pain of new United Nations sanctions targeting some of its biggest remaining foreign revenue streams.
It also bans joint ventures with North Korean entities, except for nonprofit public utility infrastructure projects.
But what Washington failed to get was equally telling.
These sanctions do not, as US President Donald Trump suggested, ban all oil imports and freeze global assets of the government and its leader, Kim Jong Un.
When these new stronger sanctions are added to those passed last month, over 90 per cent of North Korea's publicly reported exports are now fully banned.
Washington has dangled the prospect of military action in the North, and threatened to cut economic ties with countries that continue to trade with the it - around 90% of the North's external commerce is with China.
