"It is with great sadness that we confirm that Troy Gentry, half of the popular country duo, Montgomery Gentry, was tragically killed in a helicopter crash which took place at approximately 1:00 p.m. today in Medford, New Jersey".

It also indicated that investigators examined the engine, but did not make any conclusions about what might have caused any mechanical problems before the crash.

Shortly after takeoff, Robinson reported over the radio that he was unable to control the speed of the helicopter rotors with the engine's throttle, according to the report. The company flight instructor and another flight instructor tried to help the pilot find the best method of landing.

But the plane soon went down and crashed in a wooded area near the airport.

The pilot was then reportedly told to attempt an autorotation, which TMZ describes as when the main rotor is still supposed to turn, even without power, and glide the chopper to the ground.

The crash on Friday killed both Troy and the pilot, who were the only two on board. Earlier on September 8, Robinson had taken the helicopter out for a 1.2-hour flight.

The helicopter never made it that far. It was most recently inspected on August 17. Gentry was still alive when rescue workers cut him from the wreckage, but he died a short time later at Virtua Hospital Marlton. Crews worked for hours to remove Robinson's body from the wreck.
