Helicopter crash that killed Troy Gentry caused by engine problems

"It is with great sadness that we confirm that Troy Gentry, half of the popular country duo, Montgomery Gentry, was tragically killed in a helicopter crash which took place at approximately 1:00 p.m. today in Medford, New Jersey".

It also indicated that investigators examined the engine, but did not make any conclusions about what might have caused any mechanical problems before the crash.

But the plane soon went down and crashed in a wooded area near the airport.

The pilot was then reportedly told to attempt an autorotation, which TMZ describes as when the main rotor is still supposed to turn, even without power, and glide the chopper to the ground.

The crash on Friday killed both Troy and the pilot, who were the only two on board. Earlier on September 8, Robinson had taken the helicopter out for a 1.2-hour flight.
