26 Year Old Katie Layne Quackenbush Charge of Shoot Homeless Man in Nashville

Cops: Woman shoots homeless man for asking her to move her Porsche

The man was trying to sleep on the sidewalk, but couldn't because of Quackenbush's nearby Porsche SUV, police say.

Katie Quackenbush, 26, was charged Monday night in the August 26 shooting of Gerald Melton, 54, near Music Row.

Police say the driver, Katie Quackenbush of Nashville, began arguing with Melton before shooting him twice and fleeing in the Porsche.

Melton is hospitalized at Vanderbilt University Medical Center after sustaining critical injuries to his abdomen.

Her father, Jesse Quackenbush, released the following statement, saying his daughter fired two warning shots not meaning to hit Melton.

Katie Quackenbush, a single parent to a 5-year-old kid, had driven a companion back to her auto when the ladies apparently observed Melton irritating other ladies in the road close-by, Jesse said.

"She did say she closed her eyes when she shot both times", he said, "but they were warnings, and she thought she pointed away from him".

But Melton again started to approach them, so Quackenbush warned him she had a weapon, her father explained.

Melton said he asked the driver, Quackenbush, to move the vehicle.

He said that his daughter was driving a friend back to her vehicle when they happened upon Melton harassing other women and then started with Quackenbush and her friend.
