Boeing nears jet deal with Malaysia Air

White House has confirmed that President Donald Trump will welcome his counterpart, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak of Malaysia to discuss relations between the two nations.

"Mr. Prime Minister, it's a great honor to have you in the United States and in the White House", Trump said.

Following their meeting at the White House earlier in the day on Tuesday, Trump and Razak made a brief appearance before reporters. He was sworn into the position on 3 April 2009 to succeed Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

He said this at a gathering with Malaysian students and Malaysians living in the United States, at the Malaysian Embassy here.

But the run-up to Najib's arrival has been dominated by questions about his entanglement in an ongoing US Justice Department investigation.

Trump has yet to visit Asia, but plans to attend conferences in Vietnam and the Philippines in November. "That investigation is apolitical and certainly independent of anything taking place tomorrow".

He said the Navy dispatched the USS Iwo Jima, USS New York and the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln to help with relief efforts. The storm crashed into Cuba late on Friday, with sustained winds of more than 157 miles per hour (253 km per hour).

Malaysia has increased military cooperation with the United States in the South China Sea, where it has overlapping claims with several countries.

Mr. Najib said Tuesday the airline deals would be worth $10 billion in five years, or more if the airline executes the option for additional planes.

"What underpins decades of friendly, productive and cooperative relations are the deep-seated values we share", he wrote in an article published by The Hill newspaper.

Malaysian opposition lawmaker Lim Kit Siang painted that appeal as a deflection.

The prime minister also said his country remains committed to fighting terrorist groups, such as Islamic State and al-Qaida.

Najib stressed the key for the United States "to win the hearts and minds of the Muslim world" is to support 'moderate and progressive Muslim regimes and governments around the world, ' such as Malaysia's 'because that is the true face of Islam, that is the authentic face of Islam'.

The airline filed for insolvency in August after its main shareholder, Gulf carrier Etihad , withdrew financial support. He states: "We are in the middle of final talks with potential investors".

"Najib can not free Malaysia from the ignominy and infamy of being regarded worldwide as a global kleptocrat".

Mr Najib said Malaysia's successful counter-terrorism offensive was possible through promoting moderation and through a deradicalisation program that has had a 90 per cent success rate.

The Obama administration had also become critical of a Malaysian government crackdown on the media and political opponents.

Trump faces his own Justice Department investigation into his presidential campaign's ties Russian Federation and alleged efforts to obstruct justice. Razak denies any wrongdoing.
