Jaguar sets out to prove I-Pace in a new racing series

Jaguar converts its iconic 1960 E-type into an electric car

The series will feature modified Jaguar I-PACE cars, that will use the same circuit that the Formula E cars use over the weekend. The Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy, as it will be called, will be an "Arrive and Drive" racing series focusing on future electrification.

At the Los Angeles auto show previous year, Jaguar said its concept I-Pace crossover SUV would have a 220-mile range from its 90-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack, designed and engineered entirely in-house.

Gerd Mäuser, chairman of Jaguar Racing, says the new auto strengthens Jaguar's commitment to battery electric vehicles, global motorsport and Formula E - a series that Jaguar has been a part of since its third season.

Jaguar joined Formula E in 2016 for its first season and finished in last place in the Teams' Standings, using the season as a learning process, in a bid to take a major step forward in the 2017-18 season. The electric racer is based on the Jaguar I-PACE - the world's first premium, performance, all electric SUV that launches next year and is already a hit with customers around the globe placing their deposits. "I hope Jaguar will allow me to bring my race suit and helmet. and maybe get behind the wheel myself!" Also, Jaguar Land Rover has committed that all its model lines 2020 onwards will be electrified with either hybrid or battery technology.
