An ESPN Sideline Reporter Had A Rough 'Monday Night Football' Debut, But He Handled It Perfectly

The Monday Night Football fumble that blew up the internet had nothing to do with any on-field turnover in the Los Angeles Chargers' nationally-televised loss to the Denver Broncos.

In a video posted to his Twitter account Tuesday morning, 29-year-old Dipp addressed the controversy behind his analysis of Coach Joseph.

"Beth, coach, it's a pleasure to be with you guys", Dipp said with the enthusiasm - and nerves - of a young man in the moment of realizing his dream.

After the game, Dipp initially responded with a joke about his newfound fame, but the subject quickly turned more serious.

In his sideline report, Dipp attempted to make note of another landmark in diversity, the debuts of two black head coaches, Vance Joseph of the Broncos and the Chargers' Anthony Lynn.

Dipp hesitated and finally gave some scant details about Joseph's background and emphatically stating the coach was having "the time of his life". And on some people's perspective, it all went wrong. The regular "Monday Night Football" broadcast team of announcers Sean McDonough and Jon Gruden and sideline reporter Lisa Salters covered the first game.

Dipp stumbled right out of the gate, bumbling phrases and injecting awkward pauses into his report. "And be sure I'll make the most out of it".

Dipp didn't have much to say.

In addition, the game featured, for the first time ever, two African Americans making their National Football League head coaching debuts in the same contest. With the opening weekend of the season calling for a doubleheader, Sutcliffe was covering the earlier game between the MInnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints, while Dipp took part in the nightcap.
