Uber announces £150m fund to help drivers switch to cleaner cars

Uber to ditch diesel in London by 2019, go full EV by 2025

Uber Is Making Its Entire London UberX Fleet Hybrid or Electric by 2019

The company's goal is for all of its uberX vehicles in the United Kingdom to be hybrid or fully electric by 2022.

Other measures being introduced by Uber include offering up to £1,500 of credit to 1,000 people scrapping an old diesel vehicle and a goal of making every Uber vehicle in London electric by 2025.

The move has been more successful in some places than in others, one example being Norway where the Value-Added Tax exemption (25 percent) has led to the Scandinavian country setting EV adoption rate records with over 40 percent of new cars registered last month there having chargeable battery on board (either plug-in hybrid or fully electric vehicles, then).

For other United Kingdom cities, where less electric Uber cars operate already, the 100 percent goal is set for 2022, giving an extra two adaptation years.

"Air pollution is a growing problem and we're determined to play our part in tackling it with this bold plan".

Bo Horvat Signs Six Year Contract Extension With Vancouver Canucks
The 22-year-old has already played in 231 games to this point of his career, scoring 49 goals and adding 68 assists to his tally. If he can start contributing more with the extra attacker, Horvat could join the upper tier of fantasy talents.

Uber said it was prioritising London, where dirty air causes almost 9,500 deaths a year, because the city had a particular severe problem with particulate pollution and toxic gases from vehicles.

The offer came as the company pledged that by the end of 2019, all drivers on its UberX offering will use hybrid or electric vehicles, with no diesel vehicles at all on the app.

That same deadline also applies to a complete ban on diesel vehicles across all rides available through the app. Uber intends to roll out both measures across the rest of the 40 United Kingdom towns and cities in which it operates by 2022.

The grants will be funded with £2m from the company but users of the app will also pay for the switchover, through a 35p surcharge imposed on all London trips from October.

Campaigners welcomed the company's initiatives.

Huskers fall to Ducks despite big second half
The "Blackshirts" will offer more resistance than the FCS Thunderbirds, but Nebraska yielded 497 yards to the Red Wolves. He got close to the ball several times, but several incompletions in high-reward situations cost the Huskers big time.

A lot of this world's urban agglomerations (particularly in Europe, where diesel engines on passenger cars were allowed to proliferate) are accusing very high levels of air pollution due to the heavy traffic.

The company made the announcement in London on Friday, receiving widespread media coverage. Hybrid vehicles run on a battery that usually lasts about 40 miles before switching to petrol.

Partly, the incentive will be actually being able to operate in London once the new rules go through.

The ride-sharing company says it will give drivers grants up to £5,000 ($6,598) to make the switch to a hybrid or all-electric vehicle.
