Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha, who led the 2014 coup against Yingluck's government, has said the coup was to end political turmoil in the country.

Royal Thai Police are to discuss former Prime Minister Yingluck's flight from court proceedings, with the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) while already confirming it had no prior knowledge of her intentions.

Government spokesman Weerachon Sukhontapatipak declined to comment on the case or the implications of Yingluck's absence.
