Orr was sentenced Thursday to 35 years in prison.

The shooting took place just after 11 a.m. on January 1, 2016 when Smith responded to calls from a store in Hampton County, S.C. of a man attempting to snatch groceries from customers.

"Please tell my family I love them", Smith radios back.

The video shows Police Officer Quincy Smith walking toward Orr and repeatedly telling him to stop and move his hands from his pockets. A paramedic removes Smith's glasses and moves them aside as Thompkins speaks with another officer as they develop a plan to pursue Orr.

But without breaking stride, the gunman, Malcolm Orr, pulls a gun and shoots him. "Come here, man. Come here for a second", he is heard calling out the man in the video. Four gunshots ring out followed by Smith shouting "shots fired", and then four additional shots.

Orr turned towards Smith and opened fire, eight rounds total. At one point, apparently fearing the worst, Smith asks the dispatcher to convey a message to his family that he loves them.

As shots continue to ring out, Smith runs back to his cruiser and radios for help.

Smith survived the shooting despite suffering two broken arm bones and a life threatening wound to his neck. "I'm not playing with you!"

Mr Smith's terrified reflection can be seen in his vehicle window as he continues to describe his wounds: "My arms are broken".

The prosecutor added that the gunman shot Smith at least twice while the officer was laying on the round. The camera in Smith's glasses was purchased by the officer on Amazon.

After a two-day jury trial, Malcolm Antwan Orr, 29, of Estill, was convicted of attempted murder and possession of a weapon during commission of a violent crime.
